This is a photo by photographer Roger Ballen taken in 1993. The men in the photo are twins, Dresie and Casie, from Western Transvaal, South Africa. Here is what Ballen had to say regarding the brothers:

"As far as I know,' says Ballen, 'Dresie and Casie moved out of South Africa. I haven't seen them for seven or eight years. That's my most famous picture, and while it isn't my favourite, it is an archetype of what I mean by The Shadow Chamber (the title of a book of his work). It's like looking at primitive man, who is maybe still carrying within him aspects of being a fish, or a reptile."

One of my all-time favorite radio shows, "Frosty, Heidi, and Frank," has been canceled. The L.A. based show went off-air on Friday to make way for a new format.

My heart hurts.

Sturgeons and Coelacanths

Two rare white sturgeons were caught in Fond Du Lac, recently, which prompted a discussion about how prehistoric these fish look. I brought up the coelacanth... Rick had no idea what I was talking about. So, here, for Rick's sake, is this blog!

But not QUITE as prehistoric as the coelacanth, which was thought to be extinct for millions of years until it started popping up off the coast of Madagascar:

Now, this video was based on the essay "Look at My Striped Shirt" (http://www.lookatmystripedshirt.com/articleLAMSS.asp) - which is HILARIOUS! What makes this video so funny is the many versions that followed - my favorite being "Asian Edition":




Now... when I was in college, I did a speech on how to detect and avoid "striped shirts" - siting "Look at My Striped Shirt" as a source. These guys are AWFUL and really do ruin a fun time. Stop popping your collar and take those RIDICULOUS sunglasses off - it's NIGHT and you are in a dimly lit bar.
